Antenna America (Shinagawa Station)

Located in a food court so there's plenty of food options. Service was pretty crappy - they're not geared towards foreigners or very attentive in general. Case in point, they announced a rare beer release on social media and even put out the shelf tags. Upon arriving, I noticed the empty shelves and the long line so naturally I lined up. They would pass out order forms upon request so despite getting there early, I only found out about the form after waiting 30 minutes in line and all the forms being passed out. Would have been easier if they asked the less than 20 people in line who was waiting for the beer and passed out the forms instead. They had the staff available and were able to speak English but apparently, they simply don't bother. Selection is about 20-30 beers with a balanced selection of all styles. Some rare stuff like Enjoy By from time to time.

Shinagawa Antenna America is right by the Shinkansen exit in atre/Isetan’s Food & Time bldg. prices to go are pretty decent, on tap prices are ok but when I went the selection was fairly pedestrian (mostly Session IPAs and lower priced regulars). The bottles didn’t have the latest Stone Anniversary beer but had the Wootstout for 2018 at 750¥ so I got that instead. Service was friendly and ready to explain things to newbies in Japanese (so I overheard) but not so speedy at the register which was surprising in a train station. Overall, a good spot for solid train beers. I spent 2000¥ on 3 (Wootstout, Beerito and Nitro Merlin), I almost bought a Lost Abbey Lager too... I’d go again if I had time to kill before a Shinkansen... seeing that American Pharmacy next to it made me nostalgic for when I lived in Tokyo and went to the one in Ueno station...

More of a food thing than a beer thing. Though decent selection if you are new to Japan. Had a beer and wnt on.

Antenna America came up with the concept and Isetan (large Japanese department store) executed it and that is what it feels like. This is not AA as we know it in Yokohama. Totally different. This is 3rd floor of a high end food court. AA only serves beer, as other places provide food. Tap list, at last at this point, is very pedestrian, but perfectly acceptable if you aren’t too hardcore into craft beer. Bottles are similar. Good point is draft is pretty reasonably priced at 800 yen and cool cylinder glasses for both draft and bottles (about 350ml). Bad point relatively boring list of beers and staff were slow - though they are just starting so might get better. However, what I love is that it is a food court with Burritos, burgers, a great bakery, etc. Although I love the food at AA Yokohama it hardly is an extensive list. Now I can have awesome beer and awesome food. I killed a great burrito and Union Jack IPA and that was winning. I see myself coming here if 1. I want beer and food and in the area 2. I am getting the shinkansen/bullet train somewhere this is the perfect stop for road beers. The food court is packed and clearly isn’t focusing on the beer geek crowd, but that is fine - I am always happy to jump down to Yokhohama and geek out. .
