78 Stop on my rush through Scott's Addition. Nice large open space, lots of tables, wood and brick. Good service and nice tap selection. Running on empty at this point, so my notes are brief. |
84 Large cavernous space with some cool but stark decoration. Friendly enough for COVID times. There's good sandwiches as well next door. They don't do flights during covid, but did a few half pints at least. The good thing about this brewery is the beers they have in house seem far superior and much more diverse than the two or three they always export to the DC area, so it's definitely worth going here if in the area. Probably one of the best in Scott's Addition and area, especially since Hardywood and Ardent basically only have the same beers on tap you can find everywhere. The Belgians are especially good, sour and non sour. |
82 Made the mistake of going to RVA for a brewery romp during the Richmond Marathon Weekend. Oops. The Answer was swamped. We gave up on The Veil because we were told the wait for a beer was an hour. Vasen was also overrun, but they seemed to be handling the stampeded better than others. It was packed, but we could get beers (very good) and a find a corner to socialize. I'll be back! Brewery #891. |
80 One of the breweries in the brewery district in Richmond. A large place, but completely packed on a Saturday afternoon. Orders are placed at the bar and there is a long line (even if you are sitting at the bar!). Beers were good - they had a bunch of sours/goses on when I was there. No food but there are food trucks. Great place, worth a stop. |
78 Large taproom. Pretty decent beer list, heavy on the sour/wild beers the time I visited, but with a few solid staple styles as well. Staff was friendly, despite the place being super packed. No flights as far as I'm aware, at least not advertised on the board. Maybe half pours. |
68 Nice large taproom, brewing equipment is visible behind the glass. 15 own beers on tap. No flights available. Two beers I had were ok. |

80 Solid brewery. Good sours and stouts. Half pours are six ounces. No flights yet, but I feel that's coming. Worth a stop at an under the radar place that is making some nice stuff.
Easy walk from Veil. |
78 Large place, big and pricey looking brewhouse visible behind glass next to the bar. Long bar, lots of restaurant tables, heated tent covering a loading dock patio. Hipster videos projected on the wall.
Half pours and growlers available but no flights. Server was generous with samples though and being from Portland (ME) she knew beer well. They really had just four base beers (pale ale, sour, stout and saison), with multiple creative variants on each. Tasty beers. No food. Worth a stop. |
70 Vasen is a short walk from The Veil, another entry in what is becoming a real beer neighborhood. Large and modern space, open inside with a huge projection TV that was available for Mario Kart racing (?!). Not busy on a Wednesday evening. No flights available, and the bartender seemed a bit snippy about it. They do have half pours though. I thought the beers were decent, but actually looking at my scores I remember them as more mediocre than the scores I gave. Huh. Anyway, its definitely another brewery. |
